Note: this policy has not yet been reviewed by a lawyer. It reflects Lovara's actual product and data practices as accurately as possible, but before this is relied on as a final legal document, it should be reviewed by an attorney familiar with privacy law in the states — and countries, if applicable — where Lovara operates, particularly regarding California (CCPA/CPRA) and EU (GDPR) requirements.
1. Who this policy covers
This policy applies to everyone who uses Lovara — both clients looking for a stylist and stylists building a profile — through our mobile app and website (together, the "Service"). Lovara is based in Minneapolis, MN ("Lovara," "we," "us").
2. Information we collect
From everyone:
- Account information: name, email address, phone number, and city, collected when you create an account.
- Usage data: how you use the app — pages viewed, features used, approximate time spent, device type and operating system, and similar diagnostic information.
From clients specifically:
- Hair profile: your answers to our hair quiz — texture, density, porosity, length, color history, and what you're looking for. This is the information we use to match you with stylists.
- Activity data: stylists you follow, booking requests you send, messages you exchange with stylists, and reviews you leave.
- Reference photos: if you attach a photo when requesting an appointment or messaging a stylist, we store that photo and share it with the stylist you're contacting.
From stylists specifically:
- Profile information: your specialties, hair textures you work with, credentials and certifications you list, a short bio, and (if you provide them) your Instagram and TikTok handles.
- Portfolio photos: photos captured through the app's in-app camera at the time of a service. We do not accept portfolio photos uploaded from your camera roll — this is intentional, since it's what makes a stylist's "verified" badge meaningful. See Section 6 for more on how we handle this.
- Services and pricing: the services you offer and the prices you set for them, which are shown to clients on your profile.
- Booking and contact details: your booking tool link (if you use one) and, optionally, your salon's name, phone number, and address.
- Application information: if you applied to join Lovara, the information you submitted in that application (name, email, phone, city, specialties, social handles, booking link).
Information we do not collect: we do not process payments or collect payment card information — booking and payment happen directly between you and your stylist (or through their existing booking tool), not through Lovara.
3. How we use your information
We use the information above to:
- Match clients with stylists based on verified work and hair profile
- Let clients and stylists communicate and manage booking requests within the app
- Show stylist profiles, portfolios, pricing, and reviews to clients
- Send notifications about messages, booking requests, follows, and broadcasts (you can adjust these in Settings → Notifications)
- Review and approve stylist applications before a profile goes live
- Maintain and improve the Service, including diagnosing technical issues
- Communicate with you about your account or the Service
We do not use your hair profile, messages, or photos to train third-party AI models, and we do not sell your personal information to third parties.
4. How information is shared
- Between users: a client's hair profile, notes, and any reference photo are shared with the stylist they message or request an appointment with, so the stylist has context before the visit. A stylist's profile, portfolio, pricing, and reviews are visible to any client browsing the app.
- Service providers: we use third-party providers to run the Service — for example, cloud hosting and database infrastructure, and push notification delivery. These providers only access information as needed to perform their function and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
- Booking tools: if a stylist links an external booking tool (Booksy, Vagaro, Square, etc.), tapping "Schedule appointment" sends you to that tool's site or app. Once you're there, that tool's own privacy policy applies — we don't control what they do with your information.
- Legal reasons: we may disclose information if required by law, to protect the safety of our users, or to enforce our terms.
- Business transfers: if Lovara is acquired or merges with another company, user information may transfer as part of that transaction, subject to this policy or a comparable one.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers.
5. Your choices and rights
- Access and correction: you can view and update most of your profile information directly in the app.
- Notifications: you can turn individual notification types on or off in Settings → Notifications.
- Review visibility: you can choose whether your name appears on reviews you leave, or whether they show as "Verified client" instead, in Settings → Privacy.
- Profile view visibility: you can choose whether stylists can see that you've viewed their profile, in Settings → Privacy.
- Data export: you can request a copy of your data through Settings → Privacy → Download my data.
- Account deletion: you can request account deletion through Settings → Privacy → Delete account. We'll retain limited information as required for legal, security, or fraud-prevention purposes even after deletion.
If you're a California resident, you may have additional rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know what personal information we've collected and to opt out of its sale (we don't sell personal information, so this wouldn't apply, but you still have the right to ask). If you're in the EU/UK, you may have additional rights under GDPR. Contact us using the information in Section 9 to exercise these rights.
6. Verified portfolio photos
Because Lovara's core promise to clients is that a stylist's portfolio reflects real, verifiable work, portfolio photos can only be captured through the app's in-app camera at the time of a service — there is no option to upload photos from a camera roll. This is a deliberate design choice to protect the integrity of the "verified" badge, and it means we can confirm that every published portfolio photo was taken through the app itself.
7. Children's privacy
Lovara is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we've collected information from someone under 18 without appropriate consent, we'll delete it. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us using the details in Section 9.
8. Data security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.
9. Contact us

10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the Service changes. If we make material changes, we'll notify you through the app or by email before they take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent version.
